Kaleidoscope Farms Christmas tree named 2018 Grand Champion

Kaleidoscope Farms is once again bringing home the Grand Champion banner from the Ohio State Fair. This year’s single entry from the farm was a stunning blue-green Caanan fir.
“My grandson Parker and I went out the other day and we picked out three or four trees that we thought could work and then narrowed it down to just one to enter in the State Fair,” said Dave Reese, owner of Kaleidoscope Farms. “We trimmed it up a little, but not really too much. The competition at the State Fair this year was the toughest it has been in a really long time but the judges finally decided on ours. I guess we picked the right one.”
Known for its needle retention, fragrance, shape, and color, the Canaan fir is the most popular tree sold at the farm and throughout the state of Ohio. The 2018 Grand Champion Christmas Tree from Kaleidoscope Farms is on display throughout the Ohio State Fair in the Ag and Hort Building at the Ohio Christmas Tree Association booth.
The Ohio Christmas Tree Association learns about what the general public is looking for in terms of tree preference by looking at which trees get the most votes from fairgoers for the People’s Choice Award. Votes are tabulated daily throughout the fair and the tree with the most votes during the event is named the People’s Choice Winner.
Kaleidoscope Farms also had the Ohio State Fair Grand Champion Christmas Tree in 2014 with a black hills spruce and 2004 with a white pine entry. The farm had the Reserve Champion in 2016 with a black hills spruce and in 2012 with a Canaan fir.
The 12-day Ohio State Fair starts July 25 and runs through Aug. 4.

Kaleidoscope Farms is located just north of Mt. Cory in Hancock County.
